Dog Obedience Training – 7 Tips You Must Know
Training your 1st new dog on your own is going to be difficult, and if you are a new in this, it will be double hard. It does matter what breed the animal is, it will take quite a bit of your time regardless what your friends advice for you. House training the dog will not be belief. The outcome results of this training will be greatly depended on your contribution, the amount of effects you put into this. Your commands shall be straight forward with confidence. In reward time is the best moment to show your dog the way you talk to them.
I. Restrict Area and Damage Control
In order to make correction of actions and bad behaviors quickly and effectively, you need to know your dog’s habits routine and daily activities. To have proper damage control, restricted areas need to establish where your pet are not allow to enter. Once your pet seem to have got it right, award yourself for a job well done. But do not just let your guild down. We human mess up, so well your dog will. Do not just rely on what your dog is cable to behavior. Monitor it constantly. Put your dog in the crate or enclosure if you will be away the pet for short time. This will limited accidents to a small area. But if you will be gone for longer period, send it to a room so that it will do the least damage, like the laundry room if you have one or in the garage.
II. Setup Feeding Routine Schedule
Discipline and obedience can be help from routine. Starting with the feeding routine which can monitor amount of food the dog eats and how much it put out. It will feel happy and secure once these routing have been put in place. After the dog walk off from feeding plate, do not leave the leftover food setting there for more than 15 to 20 minutes. This will shape off its bad habits of not finish food right away. Next time he will eat up all the food when it is available to him. This way the dog will be follow your schedule rather than you follow him. Make sure your schedule will accommodate the time for your pet to relieve itself half hour after their consumptions of food or liquid.
III. Training more Effective at Positive Reinforcement
To modify the dog behavior by mean of discouraging him when catch him or intervene from the act is good. But the better solution is praise and reward system. It can go longer way, and more effective in changing behavior. Regarding use food as treats to achieve good behavior, you do not have to use it. It all depend on the style you run this training. Your voice can use as behavior modifier. An excited tone of voice like a praise, or encouragement. A male dog need a soften voice guidance which is non-threaten to him.
IV. Stay accompany by His Side
If you are not there during his toilet training, it is very difficult to give any positive guidance or reassurance to your dog. For a puppies needs your accompany him on this training during his three to four months old. It requires you to take him to proper toileting area for him to relive himself all the time. Even dogs want their owner present when they go for toilet. They know they will make their owner very happy for doing the toileting correctly. This toileting area need for the dog to use it especially in the rainy days or late in the night. Do you ever experience waiting for your dog having problem reliving himself quickly 3am in the morning. You want to your pet get the message quickly of reliving himself in the indoor in the toileting area. Once you get him accustoms in doing this regularly the sooner he learn this hygiene standard which require of him to do.
V. Do Not Keep Changing Toilet Location
To avoid confuse your dog; do not keep changing his toilet location. You want him to consistently have his accidents in the same location you setup at the start of your training. So try to make up your mind where you want the pet indoor relieve area before you start. Ensure you clean up after your pet done his business on which ever method you are using. (direct or paper training method) So that the dog will not put off because of dirty toilet area.
VI. Accident can be your Advantage
An inconvenient disaster which an accident can cause, by this setback does not have to be all bad. Use accident as your advantage during the indoor training period. You must first clean up the area of the accident, the dog desire go back to the scene of crime and commit it again. The ammonia in their urine gives them the sense of where previous toilet area they use. They always go back to the same location. Therefore, when you cleaning up, do not use cleaning product has ammonia ingredients. Clean away any thing that provides a strong odor at the scene of the accident. The dog will use it as mark to guild them go back to where they did it before. Once the area is clean, apply pet odor neutralizer, this will surely remove everything that can remind them as where the spot is. To use this inconvenient as your advantage by sending them a different message. You play with them near the location of the accident or even feed them at near by. This will give message this is not a toileting area. They will unconsciously get it because this location is related to food.
VII. Be Patience and Encouraging
This area is easy to say then done. In today world, everything is instance. Like the thing of “Instance noodle”, minute cook rice, microwave cook in minute or in second. Most people have not much patience because the new society is pushing everything to go fast. Slow down will be run over. Training your dog will need you to slow down. Leave extra time for unforeseen problems and accidents, just like raising a baby. Damage will impacted on the training and the goal accomplished if you lose your cool and blow it out on your training pet. You will lose the sense of trust to you build with you dog. Just like if you yell at you baby when something miss happen won’t achieved anything. Self control and learn to disciplined your anger will go a long way. To have a faster house training success will need to see how much patient and encouragement you put into this house pet. So what there is some frustration, just look at the joy it will bring to you later. It will put a smile in your face when you feel down from work place. It wills some kinds enjoyment for have this pet of yours.
